Dedication Day

Roman was dedicated at our church this past Sunday. There were six other little ones being dedicated or baptized. For each one, our pastor talked a little bit about the meaning of their name and then shared a verse. For Roman, he talked about strength and shared Nehemiah 4:6 -- So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.

Roman did a great job during the service. Jake and I, however, learned a lesson... so that Roman wouldn't be hungry/cranky when Pastor Mike was dedicating him, we decided to feed him a little bit early (like an hour and a half early). Roman happily wolfed down the 6-ounce bottle that we gave him during church, burped like usual, so we thought we were good to go. At the beginning of the service, Pastor Mike had all seven families standing on the platform and had started dedicating the babies at the far end of the line. Jake was holding Roman and we were waiting our turn. I heard a funny noise and turned around in time to see Roman making a gagging noise/face and approximately 3 ounces of milk/spit-up cover Jake's left shoulder. (Jake was wearing a dark brown shirt, so the milk seemed to glow and look like a whole lot more than what I think it actually was.) So Jake quickly exited, took off the spit-up shirt, and came back up to join Roman and me wearing his Waco Football T-shirt. (waco pride, baby). We decided then that we were the most under-dressed family on the platform... but it reminded us of the importance of the day and that it wasn't just a nice family photo opp. :) We did end up taking a family pic at the end of the service -- Jake put his brown shirt on backwards so the spit would wouldn't show up.

All of Roman's grandparents were able to spend the day with us, so Roman got lots of (extra!) hugs and love. :)
