the wailing chef

roman seems to have a love for baking, which is fun for me (most of the time!) i'm finding recipes that can have two things going on at once --- i can be dumping/mixing into the big mixer and he can be unwrapping a candy or something next to me.

today, roman wanted to hold the egg until i needed it. i could see him inspecting it very closely but being very careful with it. his nose was almost touching the egg and he started yelling "a crack! a crack!" i checked it out - no crack that i could see. so i went back to mixing... and then i heard wailing and saw huge alligator tears... he must have squeezed the egg too tight that it did crack and was all over the counter, his hands, everywhere. (no worries - we had another egg in the fridge!) so we cleaned that mess up and i threw the cracked shell into the sink. when it came time to add the egg into the mix, we put the good egg in and threw the shell into the sink. i went back to mixing and turned around to hear more wailing and see more alligator tears... roman was standing by the sink, pointing at the cracked shells, saying "chickens in there! chickens in there!"

so apparently this baking day has been a bit traumatic but i think we've worked through it! he definitely likes the *sampling* that gets to happen once the treats are baked! :)
