zoo fun!

so we have been talking about going to the henry doorly zoo in omaha for awhile and finally decided to go last saturday. we had a great day to go - weather was perfect. we got there soon after the zoo opened late-morning and stayed as long as we could without a nap (for roman)! we took the first half of the zoo at a pretty slow pace (3 hours) and then did the last half in about 30 minutes... the whirlwind tour! it's definitely a place that we want to visit again!

i was up on saturday morning around 4am to feed josiah -- as i stepped into the hallway to go back to my bed, i noticed at the bottom of roman's door that his light was on. (a new trick that he has picked him -- standing in his crib and turning the light switch on/off). i went into his room and he jumped up and said "i awake mama!" he had his four stuffed animals lined up in the crib and he was whipping his tiger in a circle above his head. it was hard not to laugh and go wake jake up to see this -- but i convinced roman to go back to bed and that we'd see the animals very soon...

josiah was a trooper - spent most of his time staring at jake's t-shirt!
some special father-son bonding, i'd say! :) roman did half and half -- riding in the stroller and walking with us.
we had been talking with roman about going to the zoo, not sure that he was really grasping what all that meant, until friday, the day before the zoo... at least twice that day, he looked at me, head cocked to one side, and asked, "me fight a lion mama?" i reassured him both times that he would not have to fight a lion but that we would probably see one at the zoo. and we did!

just before we left the zoo, we got to see some lions that were much smaller and more fun to play on than the first lions that we saw!

one of the last things that we saw before leaving was the fun "put-your-face-in-the-hole" lion... but roman had already "checked out" by the time we got to this photo opp, so we had to settle for roman's curly locks instead of his face... He was asleep in the car within five minutes of leaving the zoo. :]

at the zoo, we noticed LOTS of "beat state" and other shirts supporting the hawkeyes - yeah! roman showed his support (wearing his hawkeye shirt) on sunday. josiah doesn't have a hawkeye shirt yet but we're sure that he is a supporter!
