Easter came early...

Roman is working through some changes with his night sleeping (not sure how else to describe it) -- he has been waking up at random times in the middle of the night, talking and ready to be awake. We check on him, and if he isn't dirty/wet/hurt, we let him talk it out on his own. Quick sidenote: roman likes to have a pacifier in his mouth to fall asleep, but then loses it very soon after falling asleep, so we have six pacifiers at the head of his crib for middle-of-the-night situations, when he/we can't find a pacifier that he previously had in his mouth, we just grab a new one, and then life is good. So i'm not sure exactly what he was doing last night, but when i went in to get him this morning, it appeared as though he was preparing for an easter egg hunt. I found two pacifiers on the floor just beside the crib, one pacifier under the crib against the wall, and then another pacifier across the room by the foot of the rocking chair (about 3 feet away from the crib). I was kind of excited to keep searching for pacifiers once I got started, but then realized that there were only four missing from the head of the crib, so it was a fun game but ended quickly. So i'm not sure when the pacifier-tossing took place. Oh, and he was also completely upside-down in his crib from when he went to sleep last night. Funny boy. :)

one of roman's favorite things to play with is his sock. He goes for the left one more often, not sure why. (Maybe it tastes better?) It's ok by us - we always have a back-up in case we're out and he's bored with his toys/books/whatever. :]

roman enjoys books and reading... or babbling or whatever you want to call it. :)

I (colette) am officially part-time at work now, working monday-wednesday-thursday, so I get to be home with roman on tuesdays and fridays. thinking this will be a nice balance and excited to get to spend more time with our growing boy! (i'll hopefully be taking more pics/videos and updating our blog more often!)

monkey

roman amazes us with his mobility... more so in the crib than anywhere else. when he's playing, he rolls from tummy to back every once in awhile, but definitely not on a regular basis. he loves sitting up and playing, looking around, etc. but when we put him to bed at night, we never know how we're going to find him in the morning... sometimes he's moved 90 degrees and sometimes has done a complete 180! he's almost always happy when he wakes up, whichever direction he's facing! (in pic below, notice the leg hanging out of the crib, and only one sock on the other foot. that sock often ends up in his mouth... put there by roman, not us!)

here are a few more pics... just smiling for the camera and then enjoying some squash! :)

breakthrough!

Holy cow... how the time flies! Can't believe it's been three weeks since a post. The flu bug has hit us again, or rather has hit Roman. :( He had a high temp last night along with a wicked cough and runny nose. Poor fella didn't get a very good night of sleep, so he's catching up today. Amazingly, he has to be the happiest sick person you've ever seen... rarely stops smiling. and as far as his breakthrough... he has two teeth poking through! they're both on the bottom, and there are just little corners of the teeth that are showing, so he's got a long way to go. (i've been trying to get a good pic of him showing off his teeth... will be much easier once they're more visible!)

roman loves playing with the tiger basketball toy that he got for christmas from grandpa mark and grandma susan. he starts out with it in front of him and within minutes has it pulled on top of his lap - i guess it's probably easier to get the ball in the basket that way!
roman is moving his way through the 'stage 1' foods... is enjoying peas, green beans, squash, and carrots on a daily basis. he has also learned that if he makes a motorboat sound with his mouth just as we're putting the spoon up to his mouth, the liquidy food will spray out on us. i never dreamt it could be so hard to get carrots out of clothing! still, it's funny.

hi all! seems like forever since we've posted anything... sorry about that! roman is still growing like crazy - can't believe how quickly! he likes to sit up by himself - does pretty good for the most part. although, the other night, he was sitting on the floor looking at some books while i (colette) was switching out some of his clothes. after about 15 mins, he let out a funny yelp so i looked at it - he looked at me, looked straight up in the air, and flopped backwards (as if to say, 'mom, i'm tired of sitting.') it was pretty funny.

roman got to spend time with grandpa mark and grandma susan recently (and lots of other people in the wayland area!) had a great time with them!

unfortunately, the flu bug visited us. so sad to see such a little guy not feeling well. he was amazingly cheerful during the few days that he couldn't keep anything down. he was feeling better last night and able to watch the superbowl with jake and me.

can't believe we'll have a 6-month-old next week already! will have more pics for you then... :)

rice cereal? blech!

So Roman tried rice cereal for the first time this week... and wasn't too crazy about it. He thought it was funny at first - would push his tongue to the roof of his mouth and let the cereal ooze down his face. This lasted for about 10 minutes and then he was frustrated, hungry, and ready for something more familiar!

will try again next week to see if he likes it any better then!! :)

happy holidays!

merry christmas from the stotts fam! roman enjoyed his first christmas. he slept in until 7:30 (yeah!) jake read the christmas story to us and then we put a gift in front of roman. he seemed to enjoy the wrapping paper very much, which everyone told us ahead of time would likely be the case! (he also tried to eat the paper, once he had a grip.) :\

we were in wayland for a few days and got to spend time with the yutzy/wenger families -- fun times! cousins roman and raefe seem to like each other more every time they're together. raefe is a very smiley guy - has a very laid-back, chill personality. (i would say much like his papa!) here are the fellas... raefe on left, roman on right

roman is still putting anything he can get his hands on into his mouth... even raefe's hand, if it's in the right place. :}

we hope all had a happy new year's eve!! :)
