trick or treat!
Jake and I went trick-or-treating and left Roman at home to hand out candy...
...just kidding. :) We all stayed home -- the boys sat outside on our front step and handed out candy. Roman was dressed as Tigger and Jake was dressed as... a physical therapist. (how original!?!)

Growing boy... and a new trick!
roman had his 2-month check this past week. he's up to 12 pounds 9 ounces and still at 23 3/4 inches long... making some good progress! jake seems to be happy that his boy is starting to fill out. :)
roman likes being outside - here's a pic of him chillin' in his bouncy seat in our backyard. (looks like we need to put these pants away and pull out some longer ones to cover up his little legs!)

roman also learned a new trick - sticking out his tongue! It started with him copying us - jake and i thought it was so cute... but now he seems to think he should do it all the time! it's one of the first things that he does when he wakes up in the morning... sticks that tongue right out, followed by a big smile. :)
i caught him on camera this afternoon... this is my first time uploading a video - hope it works!

Growing boy!
Roman is 8-weeks old today! He has his official check-up next Wednesday... but we're certain that he's growing on all counts!

Here are some things that we're learning about Roman...
This pic is the first of a series... one of my co-workers (Lou Ann) gave me the suggestion of taking a pic of Roman each month with a specific toy/animal, so that we can easily see his growth... so here is Roman at 8-weeks old. Stay tuned for his 12-week pic in a few weeks!
- He seems to be more alert everyday -- he likes to look around and check everything out.
- He smiles often and at more things than just lights now! (that makes us feel pretty good!)
- If you stick out your tongue while making a loud enough noise with your mouth and get him to stare at it, he smiles and attempts to stick out his little tongue, too!
- Roman likes bathtime, once he's in the water. (It's a little bit of a shock until he realizes that he's in the water... but then he's good after that!)
- He has some very powerful tush (or maybe colon?) muscles... it never fails that if we have the diaper off for too long, his face starts to get red, and then he pushes with all his might, reminding us why we need to re-diaper as quickly as possible. (Thank goodness for waterproof covers that we lay on the changing table!)
- Roman loves when Jake gets home from work. Jake has many funny facial expressions (as you can imagine)... Roman loves watching the faces and just waiting for the next one to come! (It's pretty entertaining to watch as a bystander, too!)

low-key weekend
Roman attended his first wedding ceremony last night -- and he did it without major fussing! I was singing in the wedding, so the Stotts boys were planted in the back row and only had to go to the "cry room" near the end of the ceremony... yeah Roman!
We haven't measured Roman's length since his two-week check -- at that point he was still at 21 1/2 inches long. He had his weight checked this week -- is 9 pounds 13 ounces, so he's growing right on track!
Here a few more pics of the little man... he seems to like his hands up by face, usually with his fingers splayed out. We think he might have a future as a rapper or beat boxer or something like that. or not. we'll see. :)

Learning and growing...
We are realizing that taking pictures and posting on the blog take more time than we'd imagined, so we're sorry for the big gaps in time between posts!
roman is doing well - not sure how much he's grown since his two-week appointment, but jake and i agree that he's getting bigger. he gives us random smiles - don't think he's actually laughing/smiling at us yet... in fact, the main things that he smiles at right now are the ceiling fan in his bedroom (which is black and seems to "pop out" against the white ceiling) and any other forms of light, including lights in the ceiling, lamps, and sunshine.
roman attended his first flag-football game on saturday, which he slept through in its entirety. it was cold out, so he was bundled up pretty snugly in his infant seat and seemed to enjoy!
Had a fun day today -- aunt brittany and cousin raefe came to visit. britt and i had a fun (short) venture at the mall while the boys slept. we also got to do a quick photo-shoot of the boys at our house -- not sure if the boys enjoyed it as much as britt and i did. you can imagine how much laughing we did as we propped raefe up in the crack of the couch and then attempted to prop roman up against him... here are some pics. (roman on left, raefe on right)

have a great week! :)

And we're back...
Our apologies for not posting anything in the last two weeks. We posted right before we left the hospital, and then were welcomed into the world of parenting and are realizing how time consuming (and fun and challenging...) it is! I had intentions of hitting some coffee shops to do some blogging last week but soon realized that coffee shops would have to wait. We officially have internet at our house now, so hopefully posting will come more often than every other week!
Roman is growing and changing everyday. We love his funny facial expressions, especially when he's just falling to sleep or just waking up... He's making new noises -- sort of a "goo" sound that Grandma Susan says shouldn't be happening until 2 months (according to the "experts")... so we like to think that Roman is ahead of schedule. :) He has his 2-week check-up on Monday so we will have his official growth details then.
Grandma Susan was able to spend a week with us -- was so great having her here for help and moral support! :) We're looking forward to Grandma Rosie coming up sometime soon, as well.
Here are a few more pics that were taken early last week... will post more later!

Cousin Raefe & Roman -- hanging out together.
One of Roman's many funny faces...
we love the crooked smile. :\
